The Camper’s take
Picnic area set below the road overlooking the Gave river in Ossau Valley. Flat, grassy terrain suitable for campervan parking. Short but deteriorated access from road. River accessible for swimming and water supply. Few or no picnic tables remaining. Highly popular and often full by evening. Road traffic present but minimal noise impact at night due to river proximity.
Highlights
- Very flat terrain, easy to level
- River access for swimming and water
- Quiet despite the road, thanks to the sound of the stream
- Lots of available spots
Good to know
- Short but damaged access, tricky maneuvering.
- Picnic tables missing or limited in number
- Fills up quickly (as early as 7:30 PM in peak season)
- Risk of flooding from the power plant
Motorhome access : Short but bumpy and tricky on the way down; enter from the bottom if possible. Grass and flat terrain, easy maneuvering once parked. Passage wide enough for motorhomes.
